Conti was the first seed investor and advisor and director in Edge Therapeutics (NASD: EDGE), a clinical-stage biotechnology company that discovers, develops, and seeks to commercialize novel, hospital-based therapies capable of transforming treatment paradigms in the management of acute, life-threatening neurological conditions. Conti played an instrumental strategic role in accelerating Edge to its successful IPO in 2015. Today, Kurt Conti sits on the Board of Directors at Edge Therapeutics.
In the mid 1990s, the cell phone market was developing, and Conti realized the immediate need for cell towers to be constructed nationwide. In 1995 Conti Communications was formed to serve this need.
Conti Communications built 1,000 cell towers east of the Mississippi River. Projecting maturation of the market, Conti sold the business to Quanta Services in 1999.
Orbcomm, Inc. (NASD: ORBC) is a global satellite data communications company founded in 1993 focused on machine to machine communications. In 2002, Orbcomm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
: Seeing the viability of Orbcomm’s technology and services, Conti helped Orbcomm regain its footing, and after initial and public offerings, Conti divested its holdings in 2007.
In the early 1990s, there was strong demand in the construction market for equipment and machinery. Conti identified this market need and entered the business, offering short and long term rental services.
Conti sold Landgard to Caterpillar in 1995 after gaining a strategic position in the market.
In 1998, Hilltop Community Bank was founded in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. Conti was a founding member and initial investor.
Conti sold its equity share in 2006.
Deal Background: Project development on the Beaver Run Solar Farm located in Lafayette, NJ changed hands several times.
Transaction Summary: Conti assumed control of the project from a previous developer in 2015, obtained financing, and constructed a 9.9 Megawatt solar farm in less than two months. Conti now owns the project with the land owner while also capitalizing on the lucrative New Jersey Solar Renewable Energy Credit market.
